Tuomas Salmela
Tuomas Salmela has released a number of records on such seminal labels as Chicago’s Guidance and UK’s 2020 Vision to mention a few. The wide musical range from the soothing soulful vibes of “The Piece” to the dark and atmospheric floormonsters of his Phonogenic project have provided him with huge support from the industry’s key figures across the board.
“Phonogenic” has been the alias for such dance floor classics as the “The Question EP” which was a big success with it’s much charted tracks "PFD" and the title track "The Question". The “Togetha EP” was equally well received. With sophisticated blend of no-nonsense good time grooves and electronic moods, the record made it’s way to the record boxes of world’s many leading DJs. Among those was Pete Tong, who picked “Generations” (Jesper Dahlbäck Mix) among his Essential Selection.
Phonogenic Audio is the brand new label which is keeping Tuomas busy at the moment. Distributed by interGROOVE Germany, Phonogenic Audio is providing the world with fresh sound for the dancefloors, produced with love by the label runner Tuomas and his international circle of trust.
The 1st release on Phonogenic Audio, “Ladies And Playboys” by Phonogenic covers pretty much the whole run of the night. The A-side contains a journey into the sleazy late summer cityscape called “Geronimo’s Corolla”, filled to brim with drops and melodic cues to get the bodies moving. “Idiotics 101” is the DJ’s choice for the peak hour insanity with it’s catchy bassline and diamond cutting beats. Tried and tested!!! “It Came from 1984” is the functional closer of the record, but with it’s heart gripping melodies fused with the futuristic rhythm section, it’s bound to get the party started – AGAIN!
The classic Tuomas’ remixes feature the genre barrier bashing Hesohi’s vocal treat “To Hold You” in it’s full 9 minute floor filling glory on San Francisco’s Aesoteric Records.
Dataholix was a project between Tuomas and his long time partner in crime Jori Hulkkonen. The single “Powerplay” (BR Trax) lived up to it’s title becoming a jacking floor favourite.
Tuomas is also known as the other half of the cult electro outfit Fancy Robots.
When Tuomas isn't paying attention to the details in the studio you might catch him DJing in the club next to you. His sound is electronic house and tech house filled up with beats from different genres. Always danceable and groovy. And now first time in club b-eat-z, Oulu.
