B-eat-z resident: Dj Ken-guru
H.A.N.D. dj's have signed dj Ken-Guru as a resident dj of b-eat-z club
nights. Ken-Guru (Jari Tolkkinen) has been playing actively now from the
year 1997 and he has been touring all across Finland playing numerous
parties and club nights.
The first gig he remembers quite good "Friend of mine asked whether I
wanted to play in front of a real audience. First I hesitated because my
mixing skills were not so good at the time but my friend told that if I
wanna be a dj, you have to play your first gig sometime." Looking back at
that party, gig went ok (as Ken-Guru recalls) and it gave him a glimpse of
what would be his passion for the following years. "It was an awesome
feeling when people danced to the tunes you so dearly love. I think that
was my main motivator that day and still is."
"Ken-Guru's versatility, and his abilty to change are not the only reasons we signed
him as our resident dj. It's also his enthusiasm and passion for music that shines
through in Ken-Gurus' sets. We have watched him grow as one of the most
talented dj's in Finland and given the chance he would 'make it' anywhere"
(H.A.N.D productions)
Last year his studies took him to Amsterdam. There he visited numerous
venues and met loads of fellow dj's. There he also picked up loads of new
influences starting with different musical styles that he was accustomed
to in Finland. "There people just had fun and didn't actually care whether
the dj played trance, techno, house or what ever. The key was to bring
correct sounding tunes at the right time and the crowd was pleased. I
think the key word is the word that everybody loaths/loathed; eclectism.
But when you think of it, there is no other word to describe it."
Being recognized as a house dj in Finland before going to Amsterdam, he
now likes to think himself more than just a house dj. "As I am now the
resident dj, I can't be narrow minded about music I play. Well I could be
but I don't think it would serve the purpose of b-eat-z and H.A.N.D. I
know I can't be good at everything but I've broadened my views on the
music I play.". Ken-guru will play wide range of tunes depending on the
feeling of himself, crowd and the overall line of the night.
Ken-Guru's last words to the people who are coming to hear him play?
"Don't hesitate to show your feelings and have fun!"
